PROJECT: KALIPAY

I've decided to make a project for the benefit of the street children!

To be able to do this project, I surely need funds. After some heavy thinking in my room, with my closet in front of me, I realized that I already have more than enough clothes, and I only wear about 25 percent of them. I also thought of just donating them but I know not every child is the same size as me.

I have also invited my friends to join me in this project! Together, we can make the lives of these children much better, and together, we can conquer the world, day by day. Help me put a smile on every child's face :)

Food Blog: Butterbeer for Muggles

"Why don't we go and have a butterbeer in the Three Broomsticks, it's a bit cold, isn't it?"
—Hermione Granger inviting Harry Potter to the Three Broomsticks Inn.

Are you an avid Harry Potter fan? If you are, you should already know about the Butterbeer for younger wizards.

There are many versions of making your own Butterbeer on the internet, but I chose an easy one. You can go at any Starbucks store and have the barista make your customized drink. This version is also for the non-alcoholics.

Butterbeer Recipe: Muggle version

  1. Order a grande size of creme frappuccino
  2. Add 3 pumps of Caramel syrup
  3. Add another 3 pumps of Toffee Nut syrup
  4. Top it off with a Caramel drizzle

My best friend Ashrina and I had our bff date today and decided to try this Butterbeer at Starbucks in Abreeza. Because it was our first time to try the recipe, we both ordered the tall size instead of the recommended grande. The taste was so worth it!

*If you want to order a tall size, you can have 2 pumps of the syrups instead of 3.

Food Blog: Home Avenue Cake Galerie

Home Avenue Cake Galerie is truly a hidden gem! I couldn’t believe it is only a few walks (okay, maybe a tricycle ride is recommended for a lazy ass like me hehe) from my alma mater! Nevertheless, I fell in love with the fact that it is located away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The noise-induced environment added a bit of a calm aura to the pastry shop.

Cake Galerie opened last July 2010. The shop has a unique mixture of a Japanese/Korean vibe in its interior and a bit of European on the outside. Everything is super student-budget-friendly! One can enjoy a slice of cake for only less than a hundred pesos. The milkshakes are definitely a must-try!

What we ordered:
  •  Carrot cake for 63Php
  • Red Velvet cake for 63Php
  • Apple Streusel Pie with additional Vanilla ice cream for 83Php
  • Blueberry cheesecake for  58Php
  • ChocoMarsh milkshake for 55Php
  • White Moo (Vanilla milkshake) for 70Php

Trust me, the cakes look and taste finer in real life. But, if the zombie apocalypse is on its way I might as well consider eating these mouth-watering photos.

I was surprised with the White Moo milkshake’s taste. It was certainly not the usual vanilla milkshake! The taste was not too much and it wasn’t too less either. I couldn’t seem to detach my mouth from the straw- yes, it was that good that I actually thought of dehydrating myself the next day so I could go back and order for more White Moo’s! Haha

How awesome is this polaroid souvenir?

I asked the owner/baker, Ms. Charisse, a few questions on how she came up with the idea of starting a pastry shop. She was a college graduate with a degree in Entrepreneurship and proceeded to CACS to develop her passion in culinary. She also attended several workshops to hone her baking skills. Moreover, she explained to us that whilst her pastries are affordable, it doesn’t mean their ingredients are cheaper. Aside from the fact that her pastry shop is right next to her home, she makes her own recipes, too! Thus, she bakes and makes everything available on her menu. And oh- she accepts MTO cakes as well!

Food Blog: Pastanni

Who doesn’t love street food in the Philippines? You spend 50 pesos or less and viola- You have a full meal already. But, the fact that not all street foods are healthy and clean, not everybody can enjoy the feeling of eating cheap, savory food. Unfortunately, I cannot eat street foods, no matter how tempting they could get, thanks to my feeble immune system.

Pastanni, however, is a whole new level of street food. Not only did it place its stall inside a luxury mall, but it also serves street food the Italian way. If the Filipinos prefer their Chicken proben’s and isaw’s served on sticks, the Italians favor theirs inside paper cups. (This does not apply to all Italian street food- so I guess it’s just part of the store’s creativity). The store opened just this September (I forgot the exact day haha), 2013.

Yea's:

  • Just like any other street food stall, my order came up within 5 minutes. This store is a good option for people who cannot afford to insert their food breaks on their busy schedules.
  • I ordered a Risotto Bowl of Roast Beef with Garlic Yoghurt -It was so delicious!!

Nay’s:

  • When I saw the waiter (with my bowl of happiness on the tray he was carrying) coming up to where I was sitting, I wasn’t so happy anymore when it was finally placed on my table. My instant reaction was: Where’s the other half of my order? My food literally filled only half of the cup.
  • Yes, the food was really good, and yes, the order came up fast, but no, it was not worth my 150 pesos- not recommended for the practical people and definitely not for the hungry Croods. I think the only solution to this dilemma is if the costumers would have additional orders, which should've been a must for me since I already had a good impression on the Roast Beef Risotto Bowl.

P.S. Tho the prices are a big nay for me, I still plan to go back here and try out their other goodies in store.
