Health DYK's: Food for Your Bloodtype

Did you know? Not everything we see that looks healthy is good for our blood type (sorry, O folks, your universal reputation ends here). Some could be really beneficial for us and act as medicine, while there are others that are just as neutral. However, there are also shocking ( as in because-you-might-be-eating-them-all-the-time kind of shocking) products that we just have to avoid, no matter how mouth-watering and inviting they may seem. They act like poison and could eventually harm our bodies.

Last Monday, while my gym buddy Van and I were busy trying to get fit, we came across a food chart that sent our gluttonous selves screaming all the way from the dark side to the i-can't-believe-what-i've-just-read-but-i'll-follow-it-anyway side. Here is a summary:




MEAT & POULTRY
Occasional: chicken, turkey
Gotta avoid these: beef, lamb, pork, mutton, goose, bacon, ham, buffalo

SEAFOOD
Digest these: cod, mackerel, salmon, sardines, red snapper, carp, grouper, sea trout,
Occasional: snapper, swordfish, abalone, tuna, sea bass
Gotta avoid these: anchovy, clams, crab, crayfish, eel, frog's legs, haddock, herring, lobster, mussels, oysters, prawns/shrimps, scallops, squid, catfish, octopus, smoked salmon

DAIRY
Digest this: soya milk
Occasional: eggs, goat's milk, yogurt, mozzarella cheese
Gotta avoid these: semi-skimmed to skimmed milk, whole milk, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, ice cream

NUTS & SEEDS
Digest these: peanuts, peanut butter, pumpkin seeds
Occasional: almonds, chestnuts, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, walnuts
Gotta avoid these: cashew nuts, brazil nuts

CEREALS & BREAD
Digest this: buckwheat
Occasional:  barley, oat bran, oatmeal, rice bran, rice-puffed, cornflakes, brown rice bread, gluten-free bread, corn muffins, hi-protein bread
Gotta avoid these: wheat bran, wheat germ, multi-grain bread, wholewheat bread

VEGETABLES & SPROUTS
Digest these: broccoli, garlic, onions, parsley, pumpkin, spinach, ginger, tofu
Occasional:  okra, avocado, cauliflower, seaweeds, asparagus, bamboo shoots, carrots, celery, coriander, cucumber, lettuce, sweetcorn
Gotta avoid these: broad beans, chinese/red/white cabbage, red/green/yellow/chili peppers, sweet/red/white potatoes,  cultivated mushrooms, tomatoes

FRUITS
Digest these: pineapple, plums, apricots, cherries, figs, grapefruit, lemons, prunes
Occasional:  cranberries, grapes, raisins, apples, blueberries, guava, kiwi, limes, lichee, watermelons, peaches, pears, raspberries, strawberries, star fruit
Gotta avoid these: papaya, mangoes, melons, oranges, coconuts

FOOD W/C ENCOURAGE WEIGHT GAIN
meat, dairy foods, kidney beans, lime beans, wheat

Occasional: asparagus, bamboo shoots, carrots, celery, green/yellow/chili peppers, coriander, cucumber, ginger, lettuce, tofu, tomatoes
Gotta avoid these: avocado, chinese/red/white cabbage, cauliflower, red/white potatoes, cultivated mushrooms, sweetcorn

FRUITS
Digest these: plums, figs, prunes
Occasional: cranberries, grapes, papaya, pineapple, raisins, apples, apricots, blueberries, cherries, grapefruit, guava, kiwi, lemon, limes, lychees, mangoes, watermelon, peaches, raspberries, pears

Style: Rock Your Hoop Earrings

 How do you wear hoop earrings without looking skanky or cheap?

Hoop earrings are definitely one of the must-haves in every lady's jewelry box. They are very chic and versatile since one can wear them from casual day-to-day events to formal occasions. They flatter the length of the neck and obviously do not go unnoticed. But, take precaution! These loud accessories might just ruin your outfit if you mismatched them. Here are some of the major do's and dont's in wearing hoop earrings:

Do's:
  • Although it's fab to wear a pair of hoops with your hair down, it's more eye-flattering when you wear them with your hair up (a simple bun or ponytail would do). The hoops will give emphasis to the length of your neck. Thus, making your neck look slender.


  • Pair your hoops with simple or plain clothes. The hoops are already bold enough to make a statement, so it's not necessary to wear printed ones.

Dont's:
  • Don't wear accessories that would tend to overshadow your hoop earrings.
  • Hoops can be very underwhelming, and choosing a pair that would seem too large for you isn't going to be helpful, either.
